Georgetown Cafe & Bakery

The concept behind du Clos Cafe & Bakery’s spatial planning was derived from the first library in Georgetown. In 1867, Peabody gifted a lump-sum of money to a group of trustees, one of whom was W.W. Corcoran. The funds were held in a trust until 1875, when the group of trustees received a letter from the school board that a school-house was being built nearby. Their goal for the library was to elevate the public school system and establish better educational facilities for the youth through a vast collection of books. Based on the history of the library, this project’s parti is designed around the verb ‘to collect.’
